K-REACH, the analogue of the European REACH in South Korea, whose amendment entered into force on 1st January 2019, imposes to companies that import or manufacture at least one ton/year of an existing chemical or at least 100 kg/year of a non-existing chemical to register the  substance itself.

The failure to meet the registration deadline will exclude the company affected from the market access.

Within 30th June 2019, the companies had to  “pre-register” these existing substances through the Korean Environment Corporation (KECO), according their dangerousness and volume, in order to get a transition period to complete the registration.

Eventual new chemical substances will not have the transition period and will have to be registered before introducing them in the South Korean market.
